According to the Fire Department, initially the rain that fell in Poconé, 104 km from Cuiabá, slowed the spread of the flames and mitigated the fire fronts in the Pantanal.

The state government has said it will maintain wildfire suppression teams across the state, despite sporadic rains that fell on Sunday.
Starting this Monday (21), a total of eight aircraft will be used to fight forest fires, mainly in the Pantanal of Mato Grosso.
Two more planes will be hired, and will join the other six already used, to reinforce the firefighting structure throughout the state.

One of the planes will have a water storage capacity of 3,000 liters and another of 2,000 liters and both should start operating on Monday (21). A third aircraft will be hired for use the following week.
According to the state government, R $ 22 million have already been invested in resources to fight the fire.
Another R $ 10.1 million were assigned by the federal government to reinforce fire fighting actions and can be used by the State next week.
R $ 189 million were applied in fines for irregular use of fire and R $ 1 billion for illegal deforestation.
More than 2,500 professionals participate, including military firefighters, volunteers, members of the Civil Defense, the Navy and the Army.
State experts found that the fires in the Pantanal were caused by human action and the Environmental Police (Dema) opened investigations to punish those responsible.

The fires that already destroyed the Pantanal de Mato Grosso, considered the largest floodplain in the world, almost two months ago caused the most damage in history. This is the largest fire recorded in the region by the National Institute for Space Research (Inpe) since monitoring began in 1998.
According to Inpe, this year 15,756 hot spots were identified in the Pantanal. Before that, the highest number had been recorded in 2005, 12,536 outbreaks.
The fire started on July 21 and they have been on fire for almost two months.
The fire started in the Poconé region and more than 1,740,000 hectares had already been burned in Mato Grosso as of September 13. The Pantanal has recorded the highest number of fires since then. There were 5,603 outbreaks until September 16.

Only in the first 16 days of this month, 5,603 hot spots were detected compared to the 5,498 registered in the entire month of September 2007, the record for the month until this year.

According to data from the Institute for Space Research (Inpe), the forecast is for rain during the afternoon of Monday (21) in Poconé, Pantanal region, although the temperature remains high, oscillating between 24ºC and 37ºC.
Between Tuesday and Friday, the forecast is for cloudy days. On Saturday (26), it should rain a lot in the region.
In Barão de Melgaço, also in the MT Pantanal region, the weather remains cloudy throughout the week, but there is no rain forecast.
