Trump’s Democratic rival, Joe Biden, says, however, that Ginsburg’s replacement must await the election result. The ideological balance of the nine-member court is crucial to decisions on America’s most important legal matters.
But Trump promised to choose Ginsburg’s replacement “without delay,” a move that angered Democrats, who fear Republicans will vote to secure a conservative majority in the nation’s highest court.

According to the American press, three women are the favorites to fill the vacancy in Ginsburg. They are:

- Amy coney barrettA member of the Chicago Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, she is a favorite of religious conservatives and known for her anti-abortion opinions. He was a law student at Notre Dame Law School in Indiana.
- Kate Comerford Todd: White House Deputy Counsel, has a lot of support within the government. She served as a former Senior Vice President and Lead Counsel for the United States House of Justice Litigation Center.
On Saturday, before announcing that he would choose a woman to fill the Ginsburg job, Trump mentioned the names of Amy Coney Barrett and Barbara Lagoa as possible successors.
Democrats strongly oppose any nominations before the November elections, arguing that Senate Republicans blocked the election of Democratic President Barack Obama to the United States Supreme Court in 2016.

Trump already elected two Supreme Court justices during his presidency.

Earlier, McConnell said in a statement, which included a tribute to Ginsburg, that “President Trump’s candidate will receive a vote in the United States Senate.”
In 2016, for his part, the senator argued that “the American people must have a voice in the election of their next Supreme Court justice,” which meant that “that vacancy should not be filled until we have a new president.”
But now he says the Senate has the right to act because it is controlled by Republicans and Trump is a Republican president. Democrats, however, remembered McConnell’s speech in 2016.
Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer tweeted repeating McConnell’s exact line, while Biden told reporters: “There is no question, let me be clear, that the voters must choose the president and the president must choose the Senate judge. considers “.
