Whoever intends to take a boat to cross Salvador-Mar Grande, on the island of Itaparica, must be alert. The service will be interrupted for the period of four and a half hours this Sunday (20), due to low tide.
According to the Association of Maritime Transporters of Bahia (Astramab), the operation will be suspended in Salvador from 8:30 am to 1 pm. In Mar Grande, the service will be suspended from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. In addition, there was a change in the last departure time in Mar Grande, which will be at 6 pm, while in the capital it will be at 7:30 pm.
The crossing has suffered interruptions since last Tuesday (15). The suspension of the service is necessary in cases of low tide because the weight of the vessels, added to the low tide, does not allow them to dock at the Vera Cruz Terminal, on the island of Itaparica, due to the shallow depth of the navigation channel.
The crossing usually occurs with departures per hour, but additional trips are made in the event of a large flow. Currently, the service operates with 50% of its passenger capacity, due to the new coronavirus pandemic.
Morro de São Paulo
The catamarans at the Salvador – Morro de São Paulo crossing are operating normally this Sunday and have not suffered any type of service suspension.
