The Secretary of State of the United States, Mike Pompeo, arrived in Boa Vista at 2 pm on Friday (18) through Wing 7, the city’s air base. According to the United States embassy in Brazil, he will meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ernesto Araújo, to discuss Venezuelan immigration.
Also according to the embassy, the visit is part of an agenda of meetings with Latin American leaders.

Pompeo visited the Operation Reception Identification and Screening Post, located in the Treze de Setembro neighborhood, south of the capital. He arrived at the place around 2:30 pm.
The secretary met with five people from a Venezuelan family from Cumaná, Sucre state, Venezuela. They emigrated ten months ago and live in one of the Operation Welcome shelters. They must be taken to the city of Seara, in Santa Catarina.
Operation Acolhida is a humanitarian work group that coordinates shelters and internalization processes for Venezuelan immigrants who enter Brazil through Roraima. The work has been carried out since March 2018 by the Army, UN agencies and non-governmental organizations.
“Secretary Pompeo will underscore the importance of US and Brazilian support for the Venezuelan people in their time of need, visiting Venezuelan migrants fleeing the man-made disaster in Venezuela,” reads an excerpt from an embassy note.
Pompeo is in the Parish of Nossa Senhora da Consolata, to visit the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (Washing) installation.
The secretary attends the press at a press conference at 5:15 pm. Then, she heads to Bogotá, where she meets the president of Colombia, Iván Duque.
