Pompeo will meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ernesto Araújo, at the Boa Vista air base starting at 4:45 pm. The meeting should be followed by the press only at the beginning. Pompeo plans to visit the Operation Reception Identification and Screening Post located in the Treze de Setembro neighborhood, in the south of the capital, starting at 3:15 p.m.
Operation Welcomed is a humanitarian working group that deals with Venezuelan immigration in Brazil. The reception work for immigrants who enter Brazil through Roraima has been carried out since March 2018 by the Army, UN agencies and non-governmental organizations.
During the visit to the Acolhida facilities, the United States Ambassador to Brazil, Todd C. Chapman, the coordinator of Operation Welcome, General Barros, Governor Antonio Denarium, Senator Chico Rodrigues and Oscar Piñeiro, representative of the United States High Commissioner.
