Secretary of State of the United States arrives in Boa Vista from the Army base | Roraima

Pompeo will meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ernesto Araújo, at the Boa Vista air base starting at 4:45 pm. The meeting should be followed by the press only at the beginning. The conversation should then take place in private, along with representatives from the State Department and the US Embassy.

“Secretary Pompeo will underscore the importance of US and Brazilian support for the Venezuelan people in their time of need, visiting Venezuelan migrants fleeing the man-made disaster in Venezuela,” reads an excerpt from an embassy note.

Pompeo plans to visit the Operation Reception Identification and Screening Post located in the Treze de Setembro neighborhood, in the south of the capital, starting at 3:15 p.m.

Operation Welcomed is a humanitarian working group that deals with Venezuelan immigration in Brazil. The reception work for immigrants who enter Brazil through Roraima has been carried out since March 2018 by the Army, UN agencies and non-governmental organizations.

During the visit to the Acolhida facilities, the United States Ambassador to Brazil, Todd C. Chapman, the coordinator of Operation Welcome, General Barros, Governor Antonio Denarium, Senator Chico Rodrigues and Oscar Piñeiro, representative of the United States High Commissioner. United Nations for Refugees (UNHCR).

A visit to the Parish of Nossa Senhora da Consolata is also planned, where Pompeo will have to visit the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (Washing) installation.

The secretary responds to the press at a press conference at 5:15 pm. Then, she heads to Bogotá, where she meets the president of Colombia, Iván Duque.
