The successor to the Apple Watch 5 includes in the technical sheet the oximeter to measure oxygen in the blood, a function that can be useful when doing physical activities and for users with asthma. The Apple Watch 6 also has an elevation detection feature: the altimeter. Now the watch can record when the user climbs stairs or is at heights above sea level, for example.
Other important specifications that were already present in the previous model were kept. The new watch features an electrocardiogram, a tool for recording heartbeats directly on the wearer’s wrist that has become known for identifying diseases and saving lives around the world. The feature was recently launched in Brazil and can now be used by Brazilians.
Severe fall detection is also present in the Apple Watch 6. The function identifies if the user has fallen from a considerable height and displays an alert to ask the owner of the watch if everything is okay. If there are no responses, the device activates the emergency and informs rescuers of the location. The feature is natively enabled for people over 65, but users who are not in this age group can turn it on in settings.
The news came directly from Apple headquarters in the United States with the participation of several executives, including CEO Tim Cook. The company also announced the release date of iOS 14. Users of iPhone 6S or later will be able to install the new version of the system starting this Wednesday (16).
