The beaches of Rio de Janeiro were again overcrowded this Sunday (13). The strong heat, at 38 ° C, invites you to swim in the sea, which is allowed on the city’s beaches, but municipal and state decrees prohibit staying on the sand strip.
According to the decree of the city council, in the current phase 5 of relief of social isolation, it is allowed in the sand strip:
- Circulation of street vendors (between 7 am and 6 pm)
- Physical activities, but with mandatory use of masks
In addition to bathers staying on the sand strip, the following are prohibited:
- Sale of alcoholic beverages
- Altinha
- Rental of chairs and tents
The use of a mask is still mandatory. Those who travel on public roads without the accessory can be fined R $ 107.

The restrictions, however, have not been respected by locals and tourists. This Saturday (12), the beaches were already overcrowded, with bathers occupying the strip of sand with chairs and tents.
Until this Saturday, the state of Rio de Janeiro has already counted about 17,000 deaths from Covid-19. In the capital alone, there were more than 10,000 deaths from the disease.
To try to deter overcrowding of the beaches, the state government issued a decree on Friday (11) that prohibits parking for non-residents of the immediate vicinity on the edge of the city.
The municipality’s Public Order Secretariat carried out an operation with 20 trailers to avoid irregular parking. On Saturday alone, 86 vehicles were towed.
