Racing Point performed well and came in fourth and sixth, with Lance Stroll ahead of Sergio Perez’s resignation. Among them, Pierre Gasly, winner of the last race, at Monza. The top ten, from seventh to tenth, were completed by Charles Leclerc (Ferrari), Alexander Albon (RBR), Daniil Kvyat (AlphaTauri) and Romain Grosjean (Haas).

In the opening minutes, Bottas was the only driver who entered the track to record time and used soft tires. During the first half hour of training, the Finnish Mercedes was the fastest, while the other favorites did not enter the track.

With five minutes to go, Verstappen finally put on a set of soft tires and improved his time to get between the Mercedes, just 0s017 off Bottas’ best mark, suggesting a fairly balanced qualifying.

Traffic problems on a short straight track continued in the third free practice. Romain Grosjean, for example, was hampered by Antonio Giovinazzi and angrily placed his Haas next to Alfa Romeo to complain.

In a free practice without major problems, the only record was due to the problems of George Russell. The Williams driver had to return to the pits very slowly due to a brake failure, but managed to arrive safely.
