Atlético-GO surprised Vasco in São Januário, tonight (10), and won 2-1, with two goals from Renato Kayzer, the creation of Cruz-Maltino himself. With the result, the Dragon went to nine points and left the relegation zone, pushing Athletico-PR by the post. It was the team’s first victory Vagner mancini away from home in competition.
Coach Ramón Menezes’ team was left with 14 points and fell to sixth place.
On the next day, the Cruz-Maltese team will have the classic with Botafogo, in Nilton Santos, while Atlético-GO will visit Bahia. Both games will take place on Sunday.
Basque Movement
With midfielder Benítez safe, coach Ramón Menezes chose Bruno César as the starter. This was the first time that jersey 7 started a match since it was reinstated in the group, amid paralysis due to the coronavirus pandemic. The player had started the season outside of the director’s plans.
Protests before the ball rolls
The Vasco and Atlético-GO players made two demonstrations before the start of the game. The first, with flat hands and a drawn red X, against violence against women, entered Cruz-Maltino with the symbol also drawn on the shirt. Then, with folded arms, a protest in response to the invasion of the Figueira fans in a training session held at the Orlando Scarpelli stadium.
Vasco advances, Atlético-GO occasions
Colina’s team went to the game with the intention of commanding the actions and, at the beginning, had more presence in the attacking field, but failed to break the Atlético-GO blockade and create clear scoring opportunities;
Dragão, on the other hand, advanced the mark and took advantage of the errors in the exit of the ball by Vasco, managing to scare the rival. In the two most obvious opportunities, Janderson managed to reach the baseline on the right side and find a partner in the area.
Game “between intermediaries”
At a certain point, the game got “stuck” in the middle of the field. The two teams missed many passes and did not show much creativity in the search for spaces.
Goalkeepers save
With a tighter mark, Atlético-GO began to come out in a block. In one of these advances, Janderson fired Chico, who crossed the ball and Fernando Miguel reached for the defense. The Basque response came shortly after, when Bruno César stretched Henrique at full speed and the left-back got it right, but Jean pushed.
Fernando Miguel again!
Right at the beginning of the second half, Janderson appeared free on Fernando Miguel’s mark and tried the touch from above, but the Vasco goalkeeper made the save.
Replacement and face change
At five minutes into the second half, Vasco lost Andrey, who indicated a muscle discomfort. The player saw himself as one of the most important of the team until that moment. In an attempt to reduce the spaces of the opposing team, Cruz-Maltino became a more bureaucratic team and with great difficulties to reach the attack.
Tube on one side, Kayzer on the other
On one of Vasco’s few raises, Talles cut in half and hit. The ball was deflected in the back and the first opportunity he had. Cano opened the scoreboard. The Maltese crusader fans barely celebrated and saw Renato Kayzer, a member of the São Januário club, draw. After a cross from the right, Atlético-GO shirt 9 went ahead of Marcelo Alves and sent Fernando Miguel’s corner.
Kayzer shines
In a new escape to the right, Atlético-GO reached the turning point. And Kayzer, again, made his mark. After crossing to Matheuzinho, the forward calmly climbed up and went to do the second of the Dragon.
I tried and … Nothing!
After the return, Vasco proved to be a half-lost team on the field, advancing anyway and without the strength to react. The team moved little and missed many passes, preventing chances from appearing.
Jean avoids a draw
In a play from Catatau down the left, in the final stretch of the game, Cano gave in and Jean took. On the rebound, Pikachu hit hard and the goalkeeper reappeared, avoiding the goal with his foot.
Vasco’s goal canceled at the end
In the final minutes, Canó swung the net and scored what would be the draw, but with the help of the video referee, the goal was disallowed. The referee saw a touch on the arm of the Maltese cross shirt 14.
Bruno Gomes is sent off for extra time
Defensive midfielder Bruno Gomes was sent off in the 52nd minute of the second half after an attack on Matheus Vargas. The offer was denounced by the VAR.
