Téo José accepted SBT’s proposal and leaves Disney to be the main voice of Libertadores at Silvio Santos station. The narrator will sign a contract in the next few hours for two years and will be on the Bolívar (BOL) x Palmeiras broadcast, on Wednesday (16), at 9:30 p.m. The game will mark the opening of the competition on the channel, which bought the rights to Conmebol and announced the event this afternoon. The contract also runs until 2022.

According to the sportsDisney was informed of the event around 8 pm this Thursday. The name of Téo José was seen as the ideal for this new company. Also, the veteran is already known to the SBT public. In addition to having a remarkable step in the 90s, the narrator reached the final of the Carioca Championship between Flamengo and Fluminense last July, on loan from Disney.

Thus, SBT hopes to debut with a minimally familiar team in the eyes of the spectator. The fact that Téo José’s contract with Disney was nearing its end and did not have any kind of renewal or demand from Disney in this regard, weighed in favor of this situation.

Now SBT’s hiring is focused on reporting and feedback. Initially, the name of the player Alexandre Pato, Silvio Santos’ son-in-law and without a team since he left São Paulo, was considered. Pato liked the idea.

Téo José has a great career at the station and returns after 20 years away. He narrated Formula Indy races and participated in the broadcasts of the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996 and the World Cup in 1998. After leaving SBT, he went on to PSN, RedeTV! and Band. Since 2018 he was in Fox Sports, where he played the matches of the World Cup in Russia and the Libertadores.

At this first moment, SBT does not have the power to change schedules and only inherits what had already been chosen by Globo. From the knockout phase, Silvio Santos’ announcer will be able to choose the times that best suit his schedule, including the possibility of showing the matches earlier.

For now, the channel’s official debut in Libertadores (Palmeiras x Bolívar) will compete with Corinthians x Bahia for the Brazilian Championship, which will be shown by Globo at the same time.
