Sexual pleasure comes from God and Christians should take advantage of it. I eat good food.
The statements, which in other times could have resulted in death at the stake, were given by Pope Francis and revealed in a new book published on Wednesday (9) in Italy.
“The pleasure comes directly from God, it is not Catholic, not Christian, or anything like that, it is simply divine,” says the pontiff in the book.
“The pleasure of eating serves to maintain good health, in the same way that sexual pleasure serves to beautify love and guarantee the continuity of the species,” says Francisco. “The pleasure of eating and sexual pleasure come from God,” he adds.
The statements are part of the new book by Italian Carlo Petrini, which brings together a series of interviews conducted by the author with the pontiff. In the play, the Pope criticizes what he describes as “blessed morality”, which would be a rejection of the notion of pleasure. He acknowledges that the Catholic Church has already supported this point of view.
For the Pope, however, this is “a misinterpretation of the Christian message” and has already “caused enormous damage, still perceptible in some cases.” “The Church condemned inhuman, rude, vulgar pleasures, but instead it always accepted human, sober, moral pleasures,” said Francisco.
There is still no prediction when the book “TerraFutura: Dialoghi with Papa Francesco sull’Ecologia Integrale” (TerraFutura: Conversations with Pope Francis on Integral Ecology) will be released in Portuguese. The author, Petrini, is also the creator of “slow food”, a movement that defends quality cuisine and opposes fast food.
Since becoming pope in 2013, Francis has drawn attention to statements on historically controversial issues within the Catholic Church, including homosexuality and divorce.
