SÃO PAULO, September 10 (ANSA) – American actor and activist Leonardo DiCaprio used social media to participate in a critical campaign by President Jair Bolsonaro on the management of the Amazon.
The Hollywood star shared a video from the Association of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil (Apib) asking “which side are you on: Amazon or Bolsonaro?” In the Twitter post, DiCaprio used three hashtags: #DefundBolsonaro, #AmazonOrBolsonaro #WhichSideAreYouOn.
This is not the first time that the American actor, who has an international base for the environment, has fought with the Brazilian president. In 2013, after criticizing the government for high rates of wildfires, Bolsonaro even accused the American of “funding NGOs” involved in the fires.
Early in the morning of Friday (10), the Minister of the Environment, Ricardo Salles, also used Twitter to ask if the artist did not want to participate in a project that will be launched by the government.
“Dear @LeoDiCaprio, Brazil is launching the“ Adopt1Park ”preservation project that allows you or any other company or person to choose one of the 132 parks in the Amazon and directly sponsor it at 10 euros per hectare per year. Are you going to put your money where your mouth is? The minister wrote.
Salles is also the target of much international criticism, especially after saying at a ministerial meeting in April that while the media were concerned about covering the novel coronavirus (Sars-CoV-2) pandemic, it was time to “pass the herd” on. the approval. and changes in environmental laws.
