The Senate approved today (9) a bill (PL) that creates a National Registry of Persons Convicted of Rape Crimes. This registry will come out of the cooperation between the Union, states and municipalities. The format of this cooperation will tell you how to update and format the information. The resources for the development and maintenance of the registry will come from the National Public Security Fund (FNSP). The matter goes to presidential sanction.
According to the proposal, the registry must contain the following information on those convicted of rape: physical characteristics, fingerprints, genetic profile (DNA), photos and address. In the case of a person on probation, the register must also contain the addresses of the last three years and the professions exercised during that period.
“In 2018 alone, 66,041 violations were registered in the country, an average of 180 per day. The figures from the latest Brazilian Public Safety Yearbook reveal another terrifying fact: more than half of the victims – 53.8% – are under 13 years of age, ”said the project’s rapporteur, Senator Eduardo Braga (MDB-AM), in Your opinion. .
According to the rapporteur, the proposal aims not only to intimidate the rapist’s actions, but to speed up his arrest and conviction process. “It can therefore be said that the proposal under consideration, at the same time, will contribute to reducing the number of new cases and to a more agile punishment of repeat offenders.”
