Testing of the Covid-19 vaccine developed by the University of Oxford and the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca has been temporarily suspended. The safety protocol was activated after one of the volunteers in the UK had an adverse reaction: one patient had transverse myelitis, an inflammatory syndrome that affects the spinal cord.

The suspension also applies to Brazil. The Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp), one of the entities in charge of testing the Oxford vaccine, reported that there were no reports of serious reactions to immunization in the 5,000 Brazilian volunteers already vaccinated.
