Nine months have passed since the implementation of the new withdrawal rules derived from the Social security reform. The changes, which affected the minimum contribution time, are tougher and allow transition options as a way to mitigate their impacts.
Year after year, the requirements change for those who apply for the benefit. In the case of 2020, the National Social Security Institute (INSS) began to request another six months of contributions for those who wish to retire at minimum age or by age, in the case of women.
Retirement with progressive minimum age
Those who wish to retire at a minimum age will now have to contribute six more months. Women will have to have 56 years and six months, with a minimum of 30 years of contribution, to retire. For men, the requirement is 61 years and six months, with a minimum of 35 years contribution.
- Women: Minimum age of 56.5 years + 30 years of contribution;
- Men: Minimum age 61.5 years + 35 years of contribution.
Retirement by age
In the case of retirement by age, only women will have to contribute six more months. Now it is necessary to have 60 years and six months and 15 years of contributions to the INSS. Previously, the required age was 60 years. For men, the rule remains the same, as the reform did not change the criteria for this group. They can still apply for the benefit at 65 years and 15 years of contributions.
- Women: 60.5 years + 15 years of contributions;
Men: 65 years + 15 years of contribution.
How to check retirement
To facilitate calculations by the worker, the INSS provides a free retirement simulator. The consultation is available on the website or application “Meu INSS”. The citizen only needs to create a password and fill out a form with basic information, for example, the full name and the CPF number.
After entering the system, the user must click on the option “simulate withdrawal”. The tab is among the featured services, both on the website and in the app. The simulator will report the total contribution time registered in the National Registry of Social Information (CNIS) and the period remaining for retirement in each transition rule.
