President Jair Bolsonaro praised, in a national broadcast on Monday, the 7th, the 1964 coup and the role of the Armed Forces in the fall of President Joao Goulart.

“The independence of Brazil deserves to be celebrated today, from our homes and in our hearts. Independence gave us the freedom to decide our destiny and we use it to choose democracy. We are a people who believe they can do better. We are a God-fearing nation that respects family and loves its homeland. Proud to be Brazilian ”, said the president.

Still in his speech, Bolsonaro said that since independence, Brazil has told the world that it will not submit to any other nation and that Brazilians will not abdicate freedom. The president highlighted the participation of the Brazilian Expeditionary Force (FEB) in the fight against Nazism and fascism and also highlighted the miscegenation of Brazilians.

“The national identity began to be designed with the miscegenation between Indians, whites and blacks. Later, waves of immigrants followed one another, bringing hope that their lands had lost.
