In the speech, the president also claims to be committed to the Constitution, sovereignty, democracy and freedom.
President Jair Bolsonaro praised, in a national broadcast on Monday, the 7th, the 1964 coup and the role of the Armed Forces in the fall of President Joao Goulart.
“When the shadow of communism threatened us, millions of Brazilians identified with national aspirations, to preserve democratic institutions, took to the streets against a country overcome by ideological radicalization and generalized corruption. The blood of Brazilians has always been spilled for freedom. Yesterday we won, today we are winning and we will always win ”, he declared.
In a speech of just over three minutes, the president assured that he was committed to the Constitution and to the preservation of “sovereignty, democracy and freedom, values that our country will never renounce.”
“The independence of Brazil deserves to be celebrated today, from our homes and in our hearts. Independence gave us the freedom to decide our destiny and we use it to choose democracy. We are a people who believe they can do better. We are a God-fearing nation that respects family and loves its homeland. Proud to be Brazilian ”, said the president.
Still in his speech, Bolsonaro said that since independence, Brazil has told the world that it will not submit to any other nation and that Brazilians will not abdicate freedom. The president highlighted the participation of the Brazilian Expeditionary Force (FEB) in the fight against Nazism and fascism and also highlighted the miscegenation of Brazilians.
“The national identity began to be designed with the miscegenation between Indians, whites and blacks. Later, waves of immigrants followed one another, bringing hope that their lands had lost. Religions, beliefs, behaviors and points of view were assimilated and respected. Brazil developed a sense of tolerance, the different became the same. The legacy of this mixture is a set of cultural, ethnic and religious jewels, which have been integrated into national customs and are proudly assumed to be Brazilian ”.

Crowding
In the morning, the president attended a ceremony on the lawn of the Palácio da Alvorada to commemorate the 198th anniversary of Brazil’s independence.

Accompanied by the First Lady, Michelle Bolsonaro, Vice President Hamilton Mourão, the ministers and the president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (DEM-AP), the president observed the flag waving and maneuvering seven Smoke Squadron aircraft.
Shortly before 10 a.m., Bolsonaro left the Palácio da Alvorada in the presidential Rolls Royce accompanied by a group of children. After traveling 400 meters to Praça das Bandeiras, he approached the fence and greeted the fans.

Lula’s criticism
In a statement released on social networks, former President Lula (PT) affirmed that Brazil is entrusted “to a government that does not value life and trivializes death.”
“An insensitive, irresponsible and incompetent government that did not respect the rules of the World Health Organization and turned the Coronavirus into a weapon of mass destruction. Resources that could be used to save lives were used to pay interest to the financial system, ”said Lula.
For the PT, “the 2018 elections threw the country into an endless nightmare.”
“They accepted their escape from the debates as something natural. They poured rivers of money into the fake news industry. They closed their eyes to their terrifying past. They pretended to ignore his speech in defense of torture and his public apology for rape. The 2018 elections threw Brazil into a nightmare that seems to have no end. With the rise of Bolsonaro, militiamen, commercial intermediaries and hitmen left the police pages and appeared in political columns, ”he said.
In his speech, Lula again condemned what he called a coup against former president Dilma Rousseff (PT).
“The governments that emerged from the coup froze resources and scrapped the Unified Health System, SUS, which is respected worldwide as a model for other developing nations. And the collapse was not even greater thanks to the anonymous heroes, the workers and workers of the health system ”, he criticized.
“This is where, in the workers’ conquests, in this progress of the poor, in the end of servility, this is where the coup of 2016 in 2018 is at the root. Processes that, now everyone knows, were based on collaboration secret criminal of the American intelligence agencies, ”he said.
