Arrested in August on suspicion of having raped and made pregnant an 11-year-old niece in the city of Irecê, in the Center-North of Bahia, Carlos Silva de Jesús was found dead, on Saturday (5), in the cell of the police station where he was detained. in the Ibotirama municipality, in western Bahia, where he fled when investigations into the event began.

According to the Civil Police, Carlos was found with a shirt tied around his neck and there are signs of suicide, since he was alone in the cell. The region’s Technical Police Department (DPT) carried out an on-site investigation and transferred his body to the Medical Legal Institute (IML). Investigations into the prisoner’s death continue and other detainees and police will be heard to clarify the details of the circumstances.

Carlos de Jesús was transferred to the police station on the morning of August 10 by military police officers from the 28th Independent Military Police Company (CIPM), who were summoned after a complaint for inciting a minor on Rua das Mangueiras, in the Xixá neighborhood, in Ibotirama. A garrison went to the scene to support a team from the Specialized Reference Center for Social Assistance (Creas) and, after the visit, the suspect and a woman ended up being transferred to the city police station for the adoption of the appropriate measures.

According to the Ministry of Public Security of Bahia (SSP-BA), Carlos had sent an open letter for the violation of the vulnerable and ended up in prison. He was found after investigations by teams from the police unit in Irecê, the city where the crime occurred. He was being held at the police station and would be sent to prison.

G1 Bahia reported that the case was only reported after the girl gave birth to the baby. The girl and the baby are accompanied by the Municipal Guardianship Council. Police did not disclose how long ago the crime occurred.

According to information from the head of the Irecê Territorial Police Station, the man fled to Ibotirama when the investigations began. “The integrated work between the Irecê and Ibotirama police stations made it possible to arrest this suspect,” the official said.
