The number of drowning deaths on the beaches of São Paulo’s coast reached eight during the long Independence holiday, which brought thousands of people to the region to enjoy the great outdoors. The Fire Department also registered a total of 380 occurrences from Saturday (5) to this Monday (7). Two people are missing.
According to the Maritime Firefighters Group (GBMar), 380 occurrences have already been recorded in the period. Military Police teams recorded images of some of the rescues carried out with the help of the Águia helicopter.
The deaths were registered in the cities of Guarujá, Mongaguá, Bertioga and Ubatuba. In Guarujá, the victims were three men, 24, 27 and 60 years old. Among them, a retired sergeant, who saved a 13-year-old girl in Praia da Enseada.
In Mongaguá, two men, not yet identified, drowned and could not resist either. A third swimmer had disappeared and was located around 11:15 pm on Sunday (6). In Itanhaém, a neighboring city, firefighters are looking for two young men, aged 18 and 21, who disappeared after entering the sea.
Also according to GBMar, a bather suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest at Praia do Itaguaré, in Bertioga. He was resurrected by firefighters and sent to the city’s Emergency Care Unit (UPA), but ended up dying Sunday night. In Ubatuba, the victim was a 25-year-old young man, who drowned in Praia do Félix.
Firefighters register 380 incidents at sea during the weekend on the beaches of SP
According to GBMar, as of Monday 380 calls were registered in eight cities in Baixada Santista, one in the Vale do Ribeira and three on the North Coast.
In total, there were 130 occurrences on Saturday and 250 on Sunday, in the cities of Santos, São Vicente, Guarujá, Bertioga, Praia Grande, Mongaguá, Itanhaém, Peruíbe, Ilha Comprida, Ubatuba, São Sebastião and Caraguatatuba.
