Last Wednesday (02), the Civil Police of Mato Grosso put an end to the investigations into the case of Isabele Guimarães Ramos, killed by a shot in the head on July 12, aged just 14 years. The conclusion was that the shooting was not accidental, as the teenager’s friend and main suspect in the crime initially claimed. On the contrary, authorities believe that the young woman intended to kill Isabele.
A report by “Fantástico”, presented on Sunday (06), gave more details about how the police arrived at this result and even showed the last images of the victim, a few hours before his death. The recording is part of the security camera circuit of the friend’s family’s house and shows the moment when Isabele arrived at the place, around 4:40 pm on the 12th. There she was going to prepare a dessert.
Regarding the Statute of Childhood and Adolescence (ECA), the name of the teenager who shot, her boyfriend and her parents was not revealed. However, it is known that the two families were part of a group called CAC, of hunters, snipers and firearms collectors. When Isabele got home, her friend’s father had six guns on the table in the living room.
Police collected 25 witness statements and conducted 12 criminal investigations, including simulated reproduction. Due to the conflicting versions and evidence, experience was essential for the conclusion. “As there are no confessions or witnesses, the technical evidence is elementary, it is essential to solve any investigation. Because it can, must, bring the truths of the facts “, explained Eduardo Andraus Filho, director of Legal Medicine.
From this analysis, the researchers concluded that the friend, who is also 14 years old, left the case with one of the pistols on top of a cabinet in her bedroom and then went to the bathroom. Inside, she shot Isabele 20 to 30 centimeters away, at a height of 1.44 centimeters. The shot entered the nose and exited through the neck.
“It is evident that the victim was looking and pointing the gun directly at the victim’s face. The person who shot was inside the bathroom. This can be verified, as the expert report makes clear, by the bloodstains, the position of the victim’s fall and the elements and marks that remained in the place ”.said delegate Wagner Bassi. However, investigations have not been able to determine what motivated the crime.
According to the police, the teenager who shot committed an offense similar to the crime of intentional homicide, when there is intention or risk of killing. His boyfriend, crime analogous to illegal possession of a firearm. His father was prosecuted for four crimes: homicide, when there is no intention to kill, illegal possession of a firearm, omission of precaution in the custody of a firearm and procedural fraud.
Investigators also charged the girl’s mother and her boyfriend’s father with the crime of failing to take precautions when guarding a firearm. Now it is up to the Public Ministry to analyze the case and accept the decision. “If the Public Ministry agrees with the conclusion of the police chief, and offers the complaint in these terms, the adolescent can be subjected to a socio-educational measure of up to three years.”, explained Breno Melaragno Costa, lawyer and professor at PUC-RJ.
The case shows how the increasingly easy access to firearms in Brazil can have tragic consequences. “It is good to be very clear that Isabele’s death did not occur solely and exclusively because of the young shooter’s finger. There was a conjunction of factors, there was a whole context that involved both the parents of the adolescent shooter, as well as the young man who took this weapon and her parents. It was the union of these behaviors that caused the result of death “highlighted Hélio Nishiyama, Isabele’s family lawyer.
“All this tragedy would have been avoided if the State had been able to efficiently control the circulation of firearms”, completed the lawyer Breno Melaragno Costa. See the full report:

Isabele Guimarães Ramos was at a friend’s house on July 12, in a luxury condominium in Cuiabá, Mato Grosso, when she was shot in the skull and died. The case, until then, continued with many doubts and few answers. According to the teenager suspected of shooting, the gun would have gone off when she had kept the gun for her father, denying that she was playing with the object or trying to show it to her friend.
However, the official ballistic report of the Official Expert and Technical Identification (Politec) guarantees that the weapon used cannot produce an accidental shot.
