Supporters of Operation Lava Jato carried out acts in defense of the continuity of the working group this Sunday 6. According to the Vem Pra Rua movement, one of those responsible for calling demonstrations, caravans were held in 15 states of the country.
In the largest of them, in São Paulo, the organization confirmed that more than 200 cars participated in the event around noon.
The main point of the agenda of the demonstration is the request to expand the working group. The protesters point out that Lava Jato is being dismantled, led by the Attorney General of the Republic, Augusto Aras. During the event in São Paulo, flyers with the inscription “Aras, enemy of Lava Jato” were distributed.
“In a country that is divided between supporting the rachadinha or Petrolão, we chose to side with Brazil. We are a third way,” said one of the protesters in the sound car of the event. The closing point planned for the São Paulo event is the Monument to the Flags, in Ibirapuera.
In Brasilia, the caravan ended in front of the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation, with a honk of the horn and calls for the extension of the operation.
Vem Pra Rua also held a live broadcast to accompany the caravans in different cities. Names such as former minister Sérgio Moro, the jurist Modesto Carvalhosa and the founder of the Instituto Não Aceito Corrupção, Roberto Livianu, recorded videos of the movement that were shown during the broadcast.
The demonstrations were called after the departure of lawyer Deltan Dallagnol, leader of the working group in Curitiba for six years. On day 1, Deltan declared that he left command of the operation for family reasons, to accompany his one-year-old daughter to a series of tests and treatments.
Deltan had suffered wear and tear in the middle of the confrontation between Augusto Aras and the Curitiba group of prosecutors, created in 2014. Since May, after the departure of Sérgio Moro, the former judge of Lava Jato, from the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, Aras attempts to access the operation’s database, which contains confidential information about those investigated.
The PGR went to the Federal Supreme Court (STF), after the three working groups, Curitiba, Rio and São Paulo, resisted opening data indiscriminately. The advances were temporarily stopped by the rapporteur of Lava Jato no Supremo, Minister Edson Fachin.

In addition to Deltan’s departure, also last week, seven prosecutors who are part of the Lava Jato working group in São Paulo signed a letter to Aras requesting that the operation be suspended by the end of this month. The prosecutors allege “insoluble incompatibilities with the actions of the natural prosecutor of the facts of said working group, Viviane de Oliveira Martínez.”
