More than 200 thousand vehicles traveled on the roads of the Anchieta-Imigrantes System (SAI) bound for the São Paulo coast until the morning of this Sunday (6). The Highway Police already expected an intense movement on the roads of Baixada Santista, due to the prolonged Independence Day festival. The beaches began to fill up this Saturday (5).

From Sunday, to take advantage of the holiday of September 7. Even amid the Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s figures exceed those of 2019, when about 187,000 vehicles descended on the coast of São Paulo on the same holiday.
This Sunday morning, the Imigrantes and Anchieta highways registered up to eight kilometers of congestion due to excess vehicles. Normal operation (5×5) is in effect. Drivers also faced heavy traffic on the Mogi-Bertioga Highway, heading Bertioga, and on the Padre Manoel da Nóbrega Highway, heading Peruíbe.
The number of vehicles is already close to that of last weekend, when they got out more than 202 thousand vehicles for Baixada Santista, between Friday (28) and Sunday (30). At that time, there were records of crowds on the beaches and lack of use of protective masks, which worried the authorities. So to avoid crowding the beaches, at least 400 policemen were dispatched to the region.
