On Saturday night, Corinthians entered the field to face Botafogo in the match that marked the debut of Neo Química Arena. In a duel valid for the eighth day of Brasileirão, Alvinegra’s team suffered a setback, but sought the tie at the end with Jô and it was 2-2 – Fagner scored the other goal.

With the result, Timão goes to nine points won in seven games played – the team has one game less due to the postponed match even in the first round, against Atlético Goianiense.

Line up

After beating Goiás, coach Tiago Nunes decided to continue with the starting eleven and only made one change for physical reasons: Araos entered Luan’s position, with discomfort in his thigh. With that, Timão entered the field with Cassio; Fagner, Gil, Danilo Avelar and Lucas Piton; Camacho, Cantillo, Ramiro, Araos and Gustavo Mosquito; Jo.

The game

First time

Even at home, Corinthians saw Botafogo risk putting pressure on early moves. Not surprisingly, Cássio made an important defense after five minutes of confrontation. Little by little, however, the white team reacted. And it didn’t take long to score.

After Gustavo Silva fell in the area, the referee scored a penalty and, when collecting, Fagner hit a corner kick to open the scoring. It was the club’s first goal at the newly named Neo Química Arena.

After the goal, Botafogo again created chances and, after 20 minutes, reached a draw. In a lateral foul, Cássio missed and ended up flattening the crossbar. The ball hit and went in, 1 to 1 on the scoreboard.

Botafogo stayed better in the game after the draw. At 29 minutes, the return goal almost came in Caio Alexandre’s submission.

With a timely marking from the rival and very slow to get out, Timão began to have difficulties creating plays and began to be even more dominated by the visiting team, at ease on the Neo Química Arena grass.

Botafogo kept up better and, in the last minutes of the first stage, created two dangerous chances, one of them, in Honda’s submission, passed very close to the goal defended by Cássio.

Second time

Dissatisfied with the performance of his team, Tiago Nunes made his first change at half-time: Otero took over from Victor Cantillo, who already had a yellow card. Even with the change, Botafogo was the first to arrive in danger.

At four minutes, Timão threatened a poisonous ball from Araos into the area, which passed through everyone and left the baseline. At nine, Otero shot to the center and hit the goalkeeper’s hands.

Without considerable improvement on the field, Tiago Nunes made another change: Mateus Vital took the place of Angelo Araos. Corinthians started to get more with the ball, but at 17 Botafogo almost scored with Honda.

At 18, the best opportunity came in the second stage. Jô killed in the chest and hit Kitten’s crossbar. In the sequence, the goalkeeper almost launched a dangerous free kick from Otero, from afar.

At 25, Tiago Nunes made another change: Léo Natel reached the vacancy of Gustavo Mosquito, discreet in the match. Soon after, however, Botafogo scored: Kalou entered the box and hit a corner kick from Cássio to break the tie.

In the next move, Timão replied. In a good cross from Fagner, short Otero appeared head first on Gatito’s counterweight. However, with the help of the video referee, the goal was eventually canceled.

With the match nearing the end, Corinthians launched the attack and, in the 38th minute, nearly drew with Danilo Avelar, who headed firmly to the good defense of Gatito. Later, Boselli took Ramiro’s place.

Furthermore, Léo Natel went to the baseline and gave Jô a good pass to prop up the back of the nets and guarantee the tie in the newly christened stadium. Timão tried a pressure, but could not seek victory.
