BRASILIA – The parties that make up Jair Bolsonaro’s base in Congress, PSL and PTB closed, this Saturday (5), an alliance to contest the City of Rio. The ballot will be headed by federal deputy Luiz Lima (PSL) and will count with Cristiane Brasil (PTB) as a vice. The PSD, which also participated in the conversation through federal deputy Hugo Leal, is evaluating whether it will join the coalition. The union between PSL and PTB undermines the plan of Mayor Marcelo Crivella (Republicans), who is seeking reelection, to run as Bolsonaro’s candidate in the elections.
Both the PSL and the PTB have Bolsonaristas in their ranks. The PSD, which is considering joining the coalition, has Communications Minister Fábio Faria in the Bolsonaro government.

– Things got going after that first meeting today. There is a signal from the three parties to walk together in the Rio elections, with Luiz Lima at the head of the party and Cristiane Brasil as vice. The national executive of the PTB and the PSD still lacks adjustments, Sergeant Gurgel, who chairs the PSL in the state, told GLOBO. The national vice president of the legend, Antônio Rueda, also attended the meeting.
Later, Cristiane Brasil sought the report to affirm that the alliance between PTB and PSL had just been endorsed by the national executive, chaired by her father, former federal deputy Roberto Jefferson.
– Years ago, I considered that the best thing for the city, in the fight against the PT (which launched Alessandro Molon), was the support for Eduardo Paes (DEM). This time, I suggested the name of Luiz Lima. And today, we consolidate the plate. It brings lightness, transparency and credibility to the city.
The support of the PSD is still missing. When reading the report, Hugo Leal looked for O GLOBO and said that he was surprised by the announcement of the composition of the plate, which, for him, was not yet defined.
– The negotiation for an alliance is real, it is underway, but the ticket has not yet been defined – he said.
Elections: Historical ally of the PT, PCdoB launches candidate for mayor of SP for the first time
Both the PSL, which has approached Bolsonaro, as well as the PTB and the PSD are part of the government base in Congress. Consequently, Bolsonaro, who has shown support for Crivella, can be urged to adopt a more neutral stance in the municipal elections so as not to compromise his governance in Brasilia. Senator Flávio Bolsonaro and Councilor Carlos Bolsonaro are affiliated with the mayor’s party, but say the president’s instruction is not to declare any candidate a poio in the first round.

The PSL even spoke with Crivella and Eduardo Paes (DEM), but an alliance with the mayor or former mayor was remote for different reasons. Regarding Crivella, the party took into account internal investigations that revealed difficulties in the re-election project. As for Paes, the former mayor resisted accepting that the PSL, identified with Bolsonaro, nominated the deputy on his plate, fearing that he would lose the left and center-left electorate.
