With oratory to cause envy and hair always slicked back, the pastor Anderson do Carmo he conducted his services with good humor. During the preaching, he alternated readings of verses from the Bible with episodes from his own biography. To try to capture the attention of the faithful, he forced a guttural voice each time the narrative twisted or climaxed.
One of the most explored passages was his love story with Flordelis, who was known for taking in vulnerable children and ended up as federal deputy in 2018. According to her, the two met in a church in the Jacarezinho favela, in the north River, in 1991, when he had already started collecting abandoned youth.
“When I saw Flor sing for the first time, I was so moved that I said: ‘It will be here where I will remember, Jesus,'” says the pastor, in the service available on YouTube, before a packed audience. “I began to get involved in the work of evangelization to get closer to her, until one day I made her a proposal: ‘Flor, I’m sorry, but something is missing in your ministry. A man of God is missing. She looked at me and smiled. “
At the beginning of the relationship, Anderson was a 15-year-old teenager and began leading a youth group in the Assembly of God. In turn, Flordelis sang and played guitar in services and declared that he had already preached even at the door of a funk dance. In church, he did not pastor. The denomination did not accept women directing the services.
Just separated from her first husband, she was also twice the age of the new man: 31. At that time, the missionary already took care of at least five children collected, in addition to her three biological children, they are two boys, Flávio me Adriano dos Santos Rodriguesand a girl Simone, he considered his xodó and right arm.
At the time, Anderson’s father and mother were alive, however, he preferred to move in with Flordelis. In a two-bedroom house, living room and kitchen in Jacarezinho, babies, children and adolescents were squeezed out of what she says she rescued from traffic or the sidewalks of Rio. Poor and numerous, the family depended on donations to survive.
Anderson and Flordelis were married in 1998. Among the biological children of the missionary, adopted and socio-emotional (those who never had their status legalized), they would have created a total of 55 young people, many of them with moving stories. In the house, there would be a newborn abandoned in the garbage dump, former members of criminal factions and survivors of the Central do Brasil Massacre.
Over time, Flordelis also began to collect newspaper appearances and problems with Court of Children and Youth. Between the 1990s and early 2000s, the family lived in the neighborhoods of Irajá, Parada de Lucas, Rio Comprido, and Gamboa, in Rio, as well as Colubandê and Mutondo, in São Gonçalo.
Rejected by the “Spiritist parents”, Pastor Luan dos Santos was 15 years old when he was received. Flordelis reportedly took the family out “evangelizing” at night, roaming the city and delivering supplies to the homeless. Over the years, evangelism has become Flordelis Ministry, the church of the family, today based on morning.
In times of famine, everyone had a role in the house and teenage siblings needed to care for the little ones. Part of them, for example, bathed minors. Some took it upon themselves to collect donations on the streets and at fairs. Others organized the food and looked for places in the schools. Children were also posted to talk about their mother with anyone who would stop to listen.
Although he was the same age as some children, Anderson was establishing himself as a house and church administrator. Intelligent and well articulated, he would be “the mind behind” the transformation of Flordelis into a kind of “brand”.
2009 is a decisive year for the couple’s economic boom. In October the film would be released. Flordelis: just a word to change, full of global actors who waived fees to portray the life of the missionary. In it, Anderson served as a producer.
It was at that moment that Flordelis signed a contract with MK Music, one of the greatest in the gospel universe, initiating a routine of invitations to concerts and large events. On the rise, the family church began to open branches, such as in Jardim Catarina, Itaboraí, Itaipuaçú, Pendotiba and Piratininga.
At the beginning of the decade, the couple managed to buy a spacious house in a condominium in Pendotiba, Niterói. There are three floors, prayer room, garage, backyard and maid from Monday to Friday. It was there that Anderson was executed.
From the moment the economic situation began to improve, the fights between his adoptive mother and his father started to the same extent. The mother believed that she was responsible for improving the family’s economic situation, because everything revolved around her name, and not her father’s, although he was her mentor.

A series of episodes that had not been told in the film or in the services were also removed by the police investigation. Contrary to known history, Anderson started going to Flordelis’s house in the 1990s because he was dating Simone, the biological daughter of the missionary, a relationship that was later changed by her mother.
“With the end of the relationship with Simone, Flordelis went to Anderson’s mother’s house and asked permission to take him to pray on the mountain,” describes lawyer Ângelo Máximo, who represents the pastor’s family in the process. “He was never adopted by her: they were a couple.”
The pastor’s mother, Maria Edna do Carmo, died at age 65, the victim of a heart attack caused by a glucose spike, ten months after the murder of her son. One of the first to accuse Flordelis of having killed her husband, Sister Michele do Carmo de Souza, 39, had died of anemia shortly before, in October. “Unfortunately, they left without seeing the Justice,” says Máximo.
The testimonies are common reports that Flordelis and Anderson acted at a distance adoptive children of biological families. Considered one of the main prosecution witnesses, Luan Santos, for example, claims to have been “brainwashed”. “When she got married in 2008, Anderson forbade her to invite her biological parents. The mother did not like the bride either. On the wedding day she was the last to arrive and she wore black clothes, ”she says in the process.
Many also disagree that the house was an atmosphere of solidarity and cooperation, as the couple put it. According to witnesses, Flordelis would distinguish between children and prioritize the so-called “first generation”, that is, the biological and the first to be adopted.
The group was entitled to a separate pantry from the rest of the house, while the rest were restricted to the “public refrigerator”. She also won better gifts and even more money, according to reports. “Not everyone enjoyed the same benefits. This caused embarrassment to the other brothers, ”says a witness. “The biologists walked more and got clothes. (…) With the witness, I did not have a loving relationship between mother and daughter ”.
Witnesses describe Anderson as “rigid” and “ambitious.” Responsible for managing finances, he is also accused of “centralizing money” and causing a crisis in the family, such as the time he ordered a salaried child to pay for his own health plan. According to the police, members of the “first generation” were the most affected.
On trips to shows, Anderson spent more money than necessary, buying things he didn’t need, while Flordelis waited for him outside the store. When he complained, he heard from the pastor: ‘Luan, take care of your life. The money is mine and I spend it how I want ‘

In the investigation, there is also a statement from a former member of the Flordelis Ministry, according to which members of the church performed “dark rituals” and there were “sexual practices among their members.” The testimony was confirmed by a former preacher, who said he had never witnessed theological studies in the place. The meetings, he says, were only used to talk business: “It is a sect with the appearance of a religious congregation … it has nothing to do with what is written in the Bible.”
One of the adopted children claimed to have undergone some kind of “initiation,” according to the researchers. In the episode, he was allegedly locked in a room for days, only receiving a visit from Flordelis to have sex. There is also a report that a daughter was offered to foreign shepherds; However, the Civil Police consider that they do not have sufficient evidence to conclude whether sexual abuse.
Even so, the information about the possible intimacies of the couple ended up in the investigation report. In the document, the delegate included the following extract: “(The witness) narrates an episode in which her former supervisor, in mid-2007, upon accepting the invitation of the witness and visiting the Flordelis church, recognized the pastor as a frequent visitor of the same foster home she attended ”. “Complementing, even, that the then priest had there an exclusive room.”
There is a suspicion that Anderson and Flordelis went to a drinking house in Botafogo, the capital’s upscale neighborhood, at dawn. When questioned at the police station, the agent said that her husband took her to a restaurant in Copacabana, but could not give a name or address. Her version, however, was unsuccessful with the traffic monitoring data collected by the police.
