In November 2012, Raoni was received by the President of France, François Hollande, at the Elysee Palace. At that time, the cacique asked for the preservation of the Amazon and the people who live in the region.

The statement was made after the president met with the president of France, Emmanuel Macron, in search of support for the defense of the Amazon.
