Atlético-MG beat São Paulo 3-0, tonight, in Mineirão. The miners suffered in the first half, but took advantage of a ‘blackout’ by the São Paulo rival, after a goal canceled by VAR in the initial stage, to guarantee the positive result in the match valid for the seventh round of Brasileirão 2020. The goals of the match were scored by Alan Franco (twice) and Jair.
Now, the Minas Gerais team has 12 points, in third position in the table. The paulista tricolor has 13, three behind the international leader. On the next matchday, Atlético will face Coritiba, on Sunday, in Couto Pereira. São Paulo receives Fluminense, the same day, in Morumbi.
Who did it well: Alan Franco and Luciano
Shortly after distinguishing himself in the Mineiro final, Alan Franco returned to appear well at Atlético-MG. The midfielder was once again in Jorge Sampaoli’s team and had a forceful performance. He scored two goals in the first half of the match in Mineirão and guaranteed a positive result for the hosts. On the first play, the player took advantage of Jair’s pass to hit the net. In the second, it was Hyoran’s turn to roll for the player to swing the net.
Luciano was well positioned in the attack. He came very close to opening the scoring early in the game when he hit the post. He then scored the goal disallowed by the referee after checking the VAR.
Who was wrong: Gabriel Sara
Gabriel Sara was very discreet. It seemed difficult to continue with the movements. Tchê Tchê also missed the ball in some plays, such as Galo’s first goal. It is not surprising that the player ended up replaced in the intermission by the entry of Vitor Bueno.
Jair scores again with Atlético-MG
Decisive in the final of the 2020 Minas Gerais Championship, Jair once again balanced the nets with the colors of Atlético-MG. The midfielder made his mark in the victory over São Paulo, tonight, in Mineirão. He took advantage of Junior Alonso’s header after a corner kick by Guilherme Arana and, in the small area, he left his mark.
Athletic Performance-MG
With a modified formation, Atlético-MG was cornered against São Paulo. Trapped in the defense field and struggling to get out of the ball, Sampaoli’s team saw goalkeeper Rafael and the crossbar avoid at least two goals from the rival. In the sequence, it was the VAR’s turn to save the miners, with Luciano’s handicap. After the referee invalidated the offer, the Rooster took the reins of the match and began to create more. With Alan Franco, Jorge Sampaoli’s team scored two goals and took control of the game, returning to play the same football as other games, with ball possession and speed on the sides of the field.
SPFC performance
As expected, even away from home, São Paulo maintained their style of play, with a touch of the ball from their defensive field. Full of victory in the classic with Corinthians, the team came to dominate the rival and had good opportunities. However, after the controversial cancellation of Luciano’s goal (supposedly prevented), the team fell out of production. At this point in the game, the score was still level at 0 to 0. For the second half, Diniz tried to give the attack even more strength, with the entry of Vítor Bueno in the place of Gabriel Sara.
Tricolor nervousness
São Paulo lost stability after Luciano’s goal was disallowed in the first half. The team was more nervous. Fernando Diniz and some players even complained to the referee trio before the second half started. During the final stage, the team asked the judge a few questions.
