The Prosecutor of the Republic Deltan Dallagnol, who left command of Operation Lava Jato in Curitiba this Tuesday (1st), denied that his departure is linked to pressures related to the performance of the working group.
In an interview with RPCsaid the decision is strictly family. Dallagnol explained that the 1 year and 10 month old daughter was showing signs of developmental problems and that she will need her parents’ dedication to treatment.
“The pressures have always existed, exist and will continue to exist in Lava Jato. Our history shows that we have always faced them with courage, determination, hard work, resilience and asking for help from society, which we have always had ”, he said.
According to the prosecutor, the daughter’s health problem, which has not yet been diagnosed, “surpassed all other issues.” Read more about the daughter’s situation below.
“We have 14 lawyers at Lava Jato. Now, the father and mother of my little daughter are just my wife and me. It is a family matter to pay attention to her health at this important and precious moment for her development,” he said.
According to the MPF, the Attorney General in Paraná Alessandro José Fernandes de Oliveira will assume the functions of Deltan Dallganol, who, in turn, will have the functions left by Oliveira.
Deltan Dallagnol will leave the Lava Jato working group
The structure of the Lava Jato working group in Paraná was created in April 2014, one month after the launch of the first operation. Since then, according to the document sent to the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), the work has been renewed seven times, the current deadline ends on September 10.
In July this year, there was friction between the working group and the Attorney General, Augusto Aras, who said it was necessary to “correct the directions” so that “the lava jets do not last.”
In the interview, Dallagnol denied any interference by the PGR in his replacement process.
“There is no outside interference in this decision. A consultation was opened so that any prosecutor based in Curitiba expresses interest in taking over Lava Jato. And only he [Alessandro] expressed interest, “he explained.
According to him, the position could not have been taken over by another lawyer from the task force because they are not based in the capital of Paraná, although they are assigned to work at Lava Jato.
The prosecutor also said that he expects Lava Jato’s performance to be renewed by the PGR, regardless of his health. “That is what the public interest points to. The decision is Augusto Aras,” he said.
Deltan Dallagnol signed several complaints about the operation against businessmen and politicians. Among these complaints are those against former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).
According to the MPF, 543 people were reported for 217 criminal charges brought by the working group led by Dallagnol. 166 people ended up convicted by the courts in these cases.
The coordinator of Lava Jato in Curitiba, Deltan Dallagnol leaves the working group
Deltan Dallagnol has two disciplinary proceedings open against him in the National Council of the Public Ministry (CNMP) and they are suspended.
On Monday (31), the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation (AGU) argued before the Federal Supreme Court (STF) that there is a risk of prescription of a disciplinary process opened in the CNMP against Deltan Dallagnol. A process expires when the term provided by law expires during which there may be a penalty.
- The Council opens a disciplinary procedure to determine if Dallagnol committed a crime for criticizing Renan
- Celso de Mello suspends actions against Deltan Dallagnol in the Council of the Public Ministry
According to the AGU, the process that discusses whether Deltan Dallagnol committed a disciplinary infraction for allegedly trying to interfere in the presidential race for the Senate, with charges against Senator Renan Calheiros (MDB-AL), is due to expire on September 10.
Minister Celso de Mello had suspended the process, because he understood that there were problems with the process in the council and stressed that the deputies have freedom of expression.

- Petrobras R $ 2.66 billion fund: remember how it was created and know where the money goes after the STF decision
The other process, also suspended by Mello, is a request for removal filed by Senator Kátia Abreu (PP-TO).
In this process, the senator affirmed that Deltan Dallagnol was already the target of 16 disciplinary complaints in the board of directors, gave paid lectures and signed an agreement with Petrobras so that R $ 2.5 billion recovered would be destined to a Lava Jato foundation.
Deltan Dallagnol alleges family health problems and leaves the Lava Jato working group
Dallagnol explained that a few weeks ago he and his wife noticed signs of a problem with their youngest daughter, aged 1 year and 10 months. According to him, the girl, for example, does not speak words that she already knew and does not look at her parents when they call her.
There is still no diagnosis for his case, which underwent a series of tests, according to the prosecutor.
“[Médicos] already recommended treatment with therapies immediately. Early intervention is the best way to ensure the healthy development of children compared to parents who identify these problems, ”he said.
He also said that a specialist indicated about 40 hours a week of therapies, which also involve parents. Despite continuing as a prosecutor, Dallagnol explained that outside of Lava Jato he will have more time for his family.
“This will require a lot of attention from my wife and me. It is something that only we can do for her,” he said.
He said that he will continue to act in the fight against corruption and is confident that the work of the working group will continue to be carried out. “I feel very calm, secure with the decision made, which was the right thing to do. My daughter needs me. There are prosecutors who can do the job,” he concluded.
Complaint against Lula in Power Point
Recently, the CNMP decided to file a request for action by Lulacontra against three Lava Jato lawyers, including Deltan Dallagnol, who denounced the PT and made a PowerPoint presentation to explain the accusation.

In the request, Lula argued that the prosecutors intended to promote the media trial during the September 2016 press conference. On that occasion, the prosecutors filed a complaint in the case of the triplex in Guarujá (SP).
Former judge Sergio Moro, while working at Lava Jato, convicted Lula in the first instance. The sentence was confirmed by the second instance, which increased the sentence.
The Superior Court of Justice, although upheld the sentence, reduced the sentence. Lula’s lawyers have already sued the Federal Supreme Court (STF).
When the complaint was filed, Deltan Dallagnol showed the press a PowerPoint presentation with Lula’s name in the center and assigned him the role of head of a criminal organization.
Last year, the site The Intercept Brazil released messages attributed to former federal judge Sérgio Moro and Deltan Dallagnol saying the two exchanged information about the operations.
The website says that prosecutors, including Deltan Dallagnol, exchanged messages with Moro about some of the issues investigated.
On one occasion, according to Intercept, then-judge Sérgio Moro directed actions and demanded new operations from prosecutors. In one of the dialogues, Moro asks Dallagnol, according to the website: “Isn’t it a long time without an operation?” The head of the task force agrees: “Yes, it is.”
Also according to Intercept, messages attributed to Deltan Dallagnol, head of the Lava Jato prosecutor’s office, would suggest doubts about the solidity of the complaint against former president Lula in the case of the Guarujá triplex, four days before it was offered to the then judge Moro.
