Pope Francis writes a letter of condolence to the murdered grandmother altar boy: ‘I’m close to her’ – Metro

Pope Francis wrote a letter in which he laments the death of 14-year-old altar boy Jefferson de Brito, who was beaten, stoned and shot to death on August 18 in the Barra do Ceará district of Fortaleza. The São Pedro Parish, frequented by the boy almost every day, told the Green Seas System that after Jefferson’s death, parishioner Kilbert Amorim Maciel wrote a letter to Pope Francis reporting in detail the death of the altar boy. A few days later, to the surprise of all who attend the parish, on August 25 the Pope responded, writing in his own hand, a message of solidarity with the parish and Jefferson’s grandmother, Dona Teresa.

The parish

In the letter, the Supreme Pontiff says: “What you tell me about Jefferson Brito Teixeira hurts me a lot”, wrote Pope Francis also said that he prays for Jefferson and asks for divine mercy for the murderer.

“I am close to you and I pray for you, for the Parish Community of São Pedro da Barra do Ceará. I pray for Jefferson’s eternal rest and I also pray for the grandmother who has been left alone. And God have mercy on the murderers.”

Pope Francis at the end of the letter remembers Jefferson’s grandmother. “Please don’t forget to pray for me and I ask you to tell Jefferson’s grandmother that I am close to her. May Jesus bless you and the Blessed Virgin take care of you. Fraternally, Francisco ”, he concludes.

The São Pedro Parish administration also said it was happy for the return of Pope Francis and that the letter was delivered this Tuesday morning to Jefferson’s grandmother.

Dedication

Brother João Antônio Flores, pastor of São Pedro parish, told the Verdes Mares System at the time of the altar boy’s death that Jefferson was very dedicated and always ready to help the community. “He was a dedicated boy, hard-working and always willing to serve the church. He always arrived early, even before the priest, and prepared everything even when there was a party in the other community here in the parish and he was always there to help, always available, “he stated.

Arrest of suspects

Four suspects of participation in the death of the altar boy have already been detained, according to information from the Ministry of Public Security and Social Defense (SSPDS).

According to the SSPDS, “after due diligence in the region, the four suspects were located and transferred, on the last day of August 21, to the headquarters of the DHPP, where they are heard in the investigation investigating the case.”

The SSPDS also said that one of the suspects, identified as Robson Vasconcelos, 18, has already been heard and fined for the crime of intentional homicide and for joining a criminal organization.
