The Social Liberal Party (PSL) made official on Monday (31) the candidacy of federal deputy Joice Hasselmann for the São Paulo City Council. The announcement took place at the Municipal Directory of Parties in Jardins, a privileged area of São Paulo. The vice candidate has not yet been elected. The PSL launched 83 candidates for the position of councilor in the city of São Paulo.
Three names were suggested for the vice president position: Marcos Cintra, Luís Felipe de Orleans and Ivan Leão Sayeg.
Marcos Cintra is an economist and former special secretary of the Federal Treasury of Brazil, appointed by Jair Bolsonaro (without a party). He was removed from office after declaring that he advocated a new tax similar to the CPMF, which Bolsonaro denied during the campaign.
Luiz Philippe de Orléans y Bragança is a descendant of the Brazilian royal family, which ruled the then Empire until 1889. He was elected federal deputy for Rio de Janeiro in 2019 by the PSL.
Ivan Leão Sayeg, heir to Casa Leão Joalheria, says he is a supporter of Lava Jato and brother of jeweler Lydia Sayeg, who became famous for participating in the television program “Mulheres Ricas.”
The party’s state president, Júnior Bozzella, assumed the coordination of the campaign. The convention was closed to the press, which could not continue to avoid crowds. Only one room was freed at the entrance of the directory at the time Joice’s name was made official.
Elected federal deputy in the 2018 elections, it is the first time that Joice will stand in the municipal elections. During the convention, which was closed, Joice referred to Mayor Bruno Covas (PSDB). “Bruno is a good boy, but he is null as mayor,” he said.
Joice Hasselmann, born in Ponta Grossa, Paraná, is a journalist. He entered the political career in April 2018, when he officially joined the PSL. That year, she launched a candidacy for a seat in the federal deputy to represent São Paulo and was the second most voted parliamentarian in the state, with more than one million votes.
The congresswoman became the leader of the government in the Chamber of Deputies, but broke with Jair Bolsonaro and was dismissed due to political differences with the president’s children. It is currently listed as “anti Pocket and anti Lula”.
