Ibson was certain of his retirement at the age of 34, in January 2019, after a successful career with Flamengo, Santos and Corinthians, and also a four-year stint at Minnesota United in the United States. The player’s idea was to abandon football to spend time with his family.

Once the decision was made, he was off the field for five months until he received an invitation from Eduardo Uram, his agent, to defend Tombense in Series C of the 2019 Brazilian Championship. Resistant at first, he accepted the challenge that would last two and a half months.

The football presented in the tournament was enough for the athlete to renew his contract for 2020. At the age of 36 he reached the final of the 2020 Minas Gerais Championship against Atlético-MG as the main highlight of Tombense.

“It all started last year, when I returned from the United States. I returned in January and with the intention of stopping playing football. I wanted to enjoy a little more with my wife, my children and my friends. I was at home for five months, my manager [Eduardo Uram] He called me, asking if I wanted to help him in Tombense, because it is a club-company of my manager together with President Lane Gaviolle. He invited me to play for two and a half months in Serie C, “he said in an interview with sports.

“I ended up arriving, things were happening. I managed to find the happiness of playing football again. I was not sad, but I was thinking of retiring. I liked the city, my children loved the city, my wife too. We ended up renovating it a another year, and things are going very well, “he added.

Used to defending giants from Brazil, he has his first experience in a smaller club on the national scene. Although the team only became professional in 1999, the structure in the city of Tombos, in the interior of Minas Gerais, surprised Ibson.

“It does not have much difference, it is a small town, but the club has a very well structured CT. We have a stadium that has great shows, because it has a sensational lawn. So, I was surprised by the structure that I found there, I did not expect it”, commented the player, who is happy to be considered the highlight of the team led by Eugênio Souza in the 2020 Minas Gerais Championship.

“I’m very happy when I end up hearing something about myself, like you [repórter] I just mentioned that I am the standout of the Mineiro Championship. But, in addition to being happy, I have to thank my colleagues who give me this. I am quite happy doing what I like. We managed to put together a great cast, a large group, I was able to do a good preseason. And we have been doing very well ”.

Even with the 2-1 loss to Atlético-MG in the first leg of the state final, Ibson remains confident in the possibility of a Tombense title. As they had the best campaign in the first phase, the interior team needs a simple victory this afternoon (30), in Mineirão, to secure the first state trophy in their history.

“We have very high expectations. We played a great game, we ended up losing because of the details. Whoever makes the fewest mistakes ends up winning the game, despite being theoretically a small team, and Atlético being a great team, with great signings, a great All favoritism is theirs. Let’s calm down, because we have been doing a great job, and we are going to try to crown this job with a title “, commented Ibson, who does not want a change in the way the team acts in relation to the first duel of the decision:

“We know it will be difficult. We played a very safe game, we even had the opportunity to score. It is to continue in the same way. Atlético has a very offensive team, and we have to do our job, the way.” who has been playing. We could enter in the same way, because we have to win the game ”.
