The Ministry of the Environment informs that due to the financial blockade carried out today by the SOF – Federal Budget Secretariat, of R $ 20,972,195.00 in IBAMA funds and R $ 39,787,964.00 in ICMBio funds, all operations for combat illegal deforestation in the Legal Amazon, as well as all operations to fight fires in the Pantanal and other regions of the country, will be interrupted from Monday time (August 31).

As reported to the MMA by Secretary Esteves Colnago of the Ministry of Economy, the current blockade of approximately R $ 60 million reais for IBAMA and ICMBIO was decided by the Government Secretariat / SEGOV and by the Civil House of the Presidency of the Republic and adds the reduction of another R $ 120 million already foreseen as a budget cut in the environmental area for the year 2021.

The operations that will be affected as early as Monday (08/31) include, in the area of ​​firefighting in IBAMA, the demobilization of 1,346 brigadiers, 86 trucks, 10 trucks and 4 helicopters.

In IBAMA’s activities related to combating illegal deforestation, 77 inspectors, 48 ​​vehicles and 2 helicopters will be demobilized.

Within the scope of ICMBIO, 324 inspectors will be demobilized in operations to combat illegal deforestation, in addition to 459 brigades and 10 Air Tractor aircraft working to fight fires.
