The Ministry of Education (MEC) issued the authorization document so that educational institutions, which have classes on-site, teach distance classes. According to the ordinance, the authorization will be valid for another 30 days and will begin on Friday the 15th.

The authorization is intended to keep educational institutions operational, even during the quarantine period, and is valid for the federal education system, which includes:

  • Federal universities;
  • Federal institutes;
  • Colégio Pedro II;
  • National Institute of Education for the Deaf (Ines);
  • Instituto Benjamin Constant (IBC) and also by private universities and colleges.

MEC had previously authorized

This is not the first authorization granted by MEC. The previous ordinance, which also allowed face-to-face classes to be delivered online, was published on March 18.

Although the authorization has already been published, it is worth noting that institutions choosing to adopt the online class system should contact the MEC. In addition, “it will be the responsibility of the institutions to define the subjects that can be replaced, to provide the students with tools that allow them to monitor the content offered and carry out evaluations during the authorization period,” says the ordinance.

Finally, the MEC ordinance also determines that the institutions that chose not to adopt the online system and the interrupted courses must perform the replacement. “They must be completely restored in order to comply with the school days and class hours established in the current legislation.”
