BRASÍLIA- The Ministry of Health decided to cancel the press conference that would detail the isolation matrix proposed by the government for the states and municipalities. On Monday, Health Minister Nelson Teich presented a draft of the guidelines, which provided for five stages, and said details would be released on Wednesday. However, seven minutes before the start of the press conference, the agency issued a notice that the meeting was canceled.
According to the message sent to journalists, the “Ministry of Health awaits the agreement of the risk management strategy with the states and municipalities.”
Teich: Isolated minister with criticism inside and outside the government
The “deal” mentioned by the folder in the press conference cancellation notice has been pointed out by state health secretaries as an obstacle to the disclosure of the guidelines. Last week, a video conference between the minister and representatives of the National Council of State Health Secretaries (Conass) generated friction after local managers refused to endorse the proposal presented by the federal government. One of the reasons alleged by the managers was the minister’s lack of commitment to speak publicly in favor of the social distance measures implemented by the states.
In recent weeks, Teich’s isolation has been evident. The minister has received no support within the portfolio, nor with public opinion and state and municipal administrators. In the technical area of the ministry, the opinion is that Teich’s performance is “watched” by the military who were appointed to the portfolio.
The Planalto Palace did not comment on the reason for the cancellation of the disclosure of the parent.Forecast:Covid-19 deaths in Brazil expected to reach nearly 90,000 in August, study finds
