Originally, the drug was indicated for diseases such as malaria, lupus, and arthritis, but has been used and studied, in association with other drugs, for the treatment of covid-19.
In Brazil, the Ministry of Health included in its protocols the suggestion of using chloroquine in hospitalized patients with medium and high severity, but maintaining the current medical standard that it is up to the doctor to decide whether or not to prescribe the substance to the patient.
The Federal Council of Medicine (CFM) does not recommend the use of the drug, but authorized the prescription in specific situations, even in mild cases, at the discretion of the doctor and in a decision shared with the patient.
“It is being widely used in Brazil, but not in the SUS network. In the SUS network, the doctor has a brochure, which is the protocol, if he uses something other than that, he will be held responsible. And there it is written that it is only for serious cases, ”argued the president.

Today, faced with these Teich statements, President Bolsonaro said that all ministers must be “in tune” with him. “They are all my political indications.
