The number of coronavirus cases in the interior of São Paulo has grown 99% in the last 11 days. The data was released today during a state government press conference. On May 1, 4,389 people were infected with covid-19. As of yesterday, the number of infected has increased to 8,733.
In the first week of May, 151 cities recorded deaths from the disease. Until yesterday, the number had increased to 177 municipalities, which means an increase of 18.5% in ten days. Furthermore, all the cities of São Paulo with more than 70 thousand inhabitants already have cases of covid-19.
“We demonstrate the great concern, the alert for the interior of São Paulo. All regions in accelerated cases. It is essential to continue with the measures of social isolation and the use of masks,” said the Secretary of Social Development of São Paulo, Marco Vinholi
Other data shows that the interior has a higher mortality rate than the São Paulo metropolitan region. From April 30 to yesterday, inland cities had a 68% increase in deaths, while the metropolitan region recorded a 63% increase.
