The director general of the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin), Alexandre Ramagem, visited President Jair Bolsonaro at the Palácio da Alvorada, in Brasilia, this Sunday morning (10).
A friend of the family of the president and delegate of the Federal Police, Ramage left Alvorada shortly before 1 in the afternoon and did not speak to the press. When asked, Abin’s advisers and the presidency of the Republic did not confirm the meeting, nor did they say the reason for the visit.
In late April, Bolsonaro appointed Ramage as the new director general of the Federal Police to replace Maurício Valeixo. The exchange was prohibited by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) but, before, led to the resignation of former Minister of Justice and Public Security Sergio Moro.
Ramage is friends with the children of Jair Bolsonaro and, in the 2018 campaign, coordinated the personal security of the current president after the knife attack in Juiz de Fora (MG). He was also an advisor to the then Minister Santos Cruz in the Government Secretariat.
At the end of April, Minister Alexandre de Moraes suspended the indication of damage for the PF
In resigning, Moro said the change in PF director general was an attempt by Jair Bolsonaro to interfere with the corporation’s autonomy. The statement prompted STF Minister Alexandre de Moraes to block the nomination, due to signs of misuse of purpose. In addition, Minister Celso de Mello authorized the PGR to investigate the suspicion revealed by Moro.
The Planalto canceled the nomination and, therefore, misuse of the purpose was dismissed last Friday. The Attorney General’s Office (AGU) unsuccessfully attempted to keep the lawsuit going, arguing that Bolsonaro was still interested in appointing Ramage to the PF command.
