iPhone 12 Pro Max should be bigger, slimmer, and have fewer edges than its predecessor

Apple still has nearly five months to officially announce the successor to the iPhone 11, if the pandemic doesn’t delay the schedule, but we already know what leak it has at any time of the year. Now they were the CAD files for the Max variant, showing reasonably detailed schematics of the device, like the dimensions and locations of buttons and cameras, for example.

According to EverythingAppleProThis guide is generally filtered in the spring in the northern hemisphere (fall in Brazil) before the product launch. Max Weinbach passed the file to the channel. The scheme would be in January this year, and some things may have changed since then, as Apple is coming up with the latest prototypes of the iPhone 12 Pro Max. The YouTube channel created a model of the device from the data obtained.

According to the available file, many leaks that occurred during this year are confirmed, mainly from information from analysts. One is the screen size, 6.7 inches on the Max model, a considerable increase over the 6.7 inches on the iPhone 11 Pro Max. But that does not mean an increase in the size of the device: the edges will be reduced by 2, from 5 mm to 1.5 mm: a cut of 40%.

The thickness was reduced from 8.1mm to 7.39mm, which ended up causing a small increase in the size of the cameras spine, ranging from 1.21mm to 1.26mm in the new model. The sides are practically straight and the dimensions are slightly larger, at 160.84 x 78.09 mm (against 157.95 x 77.84 mm for the 11 Pro Max). The overall appearance is very similar to that of the iPad Pro.

The crop at the top of the screen looks the same, but is believed to have changed since January. Apple is expected to adopt a reduced notch this year, and it’s even possible to drop Face ID to re-rely on fingerprint reading, now under the screen. However, the CAD file does not mention anything about any of these details.

The set of cameras will have the addition of the LiDAR sensor, which will be responsible for measuring the distance from objects to the device. This is for portrait photos and especially for augmented reality use.

There are other details as well, such as larger antenna lines, to ensure 5G operation and chip drawer offset to the other side. And, where that drawer was, there may be a smart connector.

It does not hurt to reinforce that this is a leak based on a possibly old CAD scheme and Apple may have changed a lot since then. There is still no confirmation on iPhone 12.
