BRASILIA – Data of the Ministry of Health published on Tuesday the 14th, notes that the total number of people who recovered from the contamination of the coronavirus exceeds the number of patients hospitalized or awaiting test results.
Today there are 9,704 covid-19 patients officially registered by the government, while the total number of recovered patients reaches 14,026, representing 55% of those who tested positive. However, it is necessary to take into account that there is a large volume of underreporting, that is, cases of unknown contamination in official statistics, which would considerably increase the number of patients.
In São Paulo, for example, where there are almost 9 thousand people infected, the state government itself estimates that this number, in fact, already reaches 100,000 inhabitants.
Of the 25,262 people infected with covid-19 across the country to date, 1,532 have died, according to data updated as of Tuesday. The executive secretary of the Ministry of Health, João Gabbardo dos Reis, stated that, to monitor the situation of beds in hospitals, the ministry began to demand that public and private hospitals frequently send updated data on the occupation of beds in the hospital. ICU, even those that are not reserved for patients with Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).
The information is necessary for the ministry to know which regions of the country should issue alerts about the risks of collapse in the service network. “Now we have more accurate information on the availability of beds and in which hospitals we will realize that we need to issue a warning notice for this problem that we are already reaching the limit of care. This is very important,” said the secretary.
The head of the ministry, Luiz Henrique Mandetta, pointed out that the measures to contain the spread of the virus take 14 days to take effect. For this reason, he asked the population not to consider that “everything is over.” “So it is good to be very attentive because sometimes the person can see and think that it is all over,” said Mandetta. On Sunday, in a meeting with religious leaders, President Jair Bolsonaro said that “this virus problem is beginning to disappear.”
