ICQ released a new version of the pioneering instant messaging software, which has been completely renewed, obtaining a new interface and visual identity. The application continues to be compatible with various operating systems, such as Linux, Windows and macOS in versions for PC, and Android and iPhone (iOS) for mobile versions. The new app was called ICQ New and it promises to work even with poor internet connections.

The comparison between the two platforms brought some similarities and highlighted the main differences of the messengers. ICQ New includes the transcription of audios, groups with more than 25 thousand members and video calls with more than 30 participants, in addition to the presence of bots on the platform and the automatic synchronization of messages. There is also no limit on how to send images and photos that can be sent without compression, that is, without losing quality.

On WhatsApp, the limits on files sent and message forwarding have been significantly reduced over the years, mainly as a way to combat fake news. Also, the platform doesn’t have different features like audio transcription and bots. In addition, WhatsApp groups can have a maximum of 256 members and, until this month, only four members were allowed in video calls; the limit has been increased to eight.

2. Message forwarding limit

As a way to combat the spread and sharing of fake news on the platform, WhatsApp has further limited the number of times a viral message can be forwarded earlier in the month. Now for frequently routed messages, i.e. more than five times, content can only be forwarded to one contact at a time. The courier later announced that there was a 70% reduction in viral content sharing.

3. Increase in the number of people in video calls

WhatsApp now allows you to make video calls with up to eight people. The change was announced on the 24th and began to be available a few days later, available in the most updated version of the application for Android and iPhone (iOS).

The number of users in video calls was restricted to four participants, and it was necessary to make a call with one person, initially, to add more contacts. Now just create a group, add the desired participants and tap the camera icon located on the top bar of the device.

4. Block groups on WhatsApp

Another highlight of the TechTudo in April it was the list with three simple solutions to block groups in the messenger. There is no specific function to block, but there are some ways that they can be used by those who can no longer bear being invited to groups they do not want to participate in.

One option includes turning off group notifications and muting the group for eight hours, a week, or even a year. Another option is to block group administrators from adding it again. The last alternative is to modify the account’s privacy settings, defining who are the users who can add it to the groups.

5. Games to play on WhatsApp

Other options include sites like Quizur, to create quizzes like the “me quiz” and tell friend points about what they know about you. There is also the possibility of using applications that offer different templates, such as Canva, to participate in popular Instagram games and post in the Status function.
