In another week of confinement, life in the automotive sector has been more hectic than we think. It all started with the bust of the long-awaited 740B project, or Corolla Cross, an SUV derived from the mid-size sedan that Toyota will manufacture in Brazil from 2021. The model was surprised in tests in Thailand and revealed that it will have an image inspired by the RAV4 , but a little smaller and simpler, to operate in a price range where the Jeep Compass is located today.
However, from what we have learned, this is not the only SUV in the plans of the Brazilian subsidiary. Toyota also has the design of a compact SUV, but has not yet received the green light for financial reasons. Still at the Japanese brand, we had the first redesigned Hilux screenings, which had leaked images last week. His debut should happen this year around here.
In turn, Volkswagen and Jeep held lives and interviews in which they revealed, respectively, the multimedia that will debut on Nivus and plans to renew Compass, Renegade and an unprecedented 7-seater SUV, respectively. In addition, the VW dealership network has started to launch, on its own, estimated prices and equipment for the crossover that begins selling in June.
Check out these and other events of the week below:
The project 740B SUV first came out of the hole, which should be called Corolla Cross (already registered in Brazil and other parts of the world). It is the long-awaited SUV that will be produced in Sorocaba (SP) from 2021 using the TNGA base and the 1.8 hybrid and 2.0 engines of the medium sedan. Toyota is also studying a compact SUV for our market, which is still pending approval.
In a live presentation this week, the German brand presented the multimedia center “VW Play” that will debut on Nivus. With a 10.1 “display, embedded digital car manual, 10GB capacity, and app store, among other resources, it promises to be the most comprehensive of domestic cars. At the same time, dealerships began revealing crossover pricing and equipment. which arrives in June
Also in a conversation with journalists, in this case in small exclusives, Jeep promised that it will not cancel any project for Brazil; at most, they will be postponed in a few months. This will be the case with the Compass and Renegade PHEV hybrid versions which, imported from Italy, will remain in mid-2021. At the beginning of next year, the 1.3 turboflex engine for domestic SUVs will also debut, first at Compass, instead of the aspirated 2.0 . In Renegade, the new engine will not mean the end of the current 1.8, which will remain in the entry versions (photo above). Still next year, the unprecedented 7-seater Jeep developed from the Compass will come, but that promises its own look.
Too bad, for now, this variant is confirmed only for the Indian market, where Kicks uses the same platform as his cousins Renault Duster and Captur, in Brazil and the rest of the world derived from the March base. In this way, it will use the 1.3 turbo engine developed in collaboration by Renault and Mercedes-Benz, with 156 hp and 25.9 kgfm of torque, linked to a new generation of CVT gearbox with 8-speed simulation. Knowing that this set will be used here in the redesigned Captur, which arrives in 2021, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to have it in Kicks too, right? Well, for now what is correct is the debut of the redesigned version of Kicks here in the first half of 2021, along with the hybrid e-Power version.
