At the door of the prison unit, Amazonas public security secretary Colonel Louismar Bonates said the hostages are also unharmed and that the situation is already “normalized” in the unit.
“There were no hostages seriously injured, only scratches, and no prisoner was injured. The situation is now normalized. The bombs dropped only had a moral effect, “said the secretary.
During the morning, family members who accompanied the rebellion outside the prison even received photos showing scattered bodies on the floor. SPP-AM has denied any record of deaths within the unit. “Images of bodies on the ground do not proceed.”
Since 6 am this Saturday, when the rebellion began, Military Police teams have been working at the site. Prime Minister General Commander Colonel Ayrton North said the prison was “pacified” around 11:30 a.m.
“Unfortunately, they wanted to attack, they started breaking tiles and throwing stones at the police. We act legally. The area is pacified and is being handed over again to the prison administration secretary,” said the commander.
The rebellion began around 6 a.m., during breakfast, when inmates sawed off the two-cell grid and advanced on officers, according to the Secretariat for Prison Administration (Seap). The UPP currently has 1,079 prisoners. According to relatives of prisoners, the rebellion was to demand better conditions inside the prison.
Outside the cells, prisoners are piled up in water tank towers located outside the prison, where they protested with the hostages. It is not yet calculated how many inmates were involved in the riot.
