Jair Renan Bolsonaro, son of President Jair Bolsonaro, had his Twitch account suspended for violating hate policies on the video-driven platform.

“In accordance with our hateful behavior policies, Renan Bolsonaro was temporarily suspended from Twitch for comments made on his broadcast and the content was removed,” the platform said through its press office.

On his Twitter profile, Renan said he had been banned for making a joke during a broadcast.

“Interestingly, the social network maintains profiles that clearly spread misandry (hatred, contempt, or prejudice against men or boys), but they don’t endorse a joke, no matter how heavy,” he wrote.

In a video that was shared on social media, he plays a game and denies the existence of the new coronavirus pandemic.

“What pandemic? This is the history of the media there, to lock you up in the house, to think that the world is ending. It’s a little cold, brother,” said Renan.

On Twitter, he said he only made a joke and that it was taken out of context.

“Many profiles used the joke out of context and in the face of all this political struggle. I got hurt. The need to attack someone who affects the president of the republic is greater than discovering a simple joke and respecting freedom of expression.”

This Thursday (30), he published the excerpt from the broadcast, in which he says he would rather “die having sex than die coughing,” and compares it to a statement made by singer Leonardo.
