Thelminha, the only black student in her medical class, is a BBB champion

Thelma Assis is the big winner of the BBB 20, with 44.1% of the votes. She surpassed Rafa, who obtained 34%, and won the R $ 1.5 million prize.

Born and raised on the outskirts of São Paulo, Thelma was rejected by her biological mother and adopted at the age of three by civil servant Yara Assis and graphic artist Carlos Alberto de Assis. The dream of becoming a doctor arose when she was a child, when she was treated for bronchitis.

Despite the difficulties and humble origins, Thelma’s parents always fought so that nothing was missing. He studied in a private school until the end of high school and completed his studies in a public school. The young woman did ballet and obtained a 50% scholarship in a pre-university course.

Thelma studied day and night for three years and helped her parents pay for tuition by giving ballet classes and distributing brochures. He managed to pass the entrance exam with a 100% scholarship and began to receive R $ 300 in government aid.

In college, he faced more difficulties. She was unable to purchase the instruments and books for the course. To save money, she used photocopies and had lunch at the popular restaurant for R $ 1. Upon graduation, Thelma was the only black student in her class. Currently, the medical anesthesiologist works in four hospitals in greater São Paulo.

At BBB, he toppled already-known participants and names considered favorites. With Babu’s departure, Thelma became the only black participant in the house, bringing in the crowd pointing to the racial issue. It also had the support of various celebrities, such as Bruno Gagliasso, Anitta, Taís Araujo and even the American actress Viola Davis.
