The Minister of Health, Nelson Teich, affirmed today that the projection models of the peak of epidemics “make many mistakes” and, therefore, it is important to prepare to face the overload of the health system in the treatment of patients with covid-19 in different periods
“When we say there will be a peak, we have been talking all the time about how heterogeneous the country is. So imagining an equal peak for all regions is not a reasonable and correct thing. A fundamental thing is that, although you can project a peak of the disease in some regions, you have to prepare to be wrong, “said the minister.

Teich participated in a press conference on the balance of cases of covid-19, in the Planalto Palace. Former Health Minister Luiz Henrique Mandetta predicted the peak of the disease between late April and early May.
“Ideally, we should have this idea, but we don’t stick to the number as an absolute truth. Especially because you end up preparing yourself only for those moments, but you have to be prepared for sooner or later, ”said Teich, when journalists asked him about the issue.
The bulletin of the Ministry of Health published this Monday shows that the disease is still progressing in Brazil. The number of deaths related to the new coronavirus (covid-19) increased to 4,543. The country already has a total of 66,501 infected people.
Teich argued that research related to covid-19 treatment should be prioritized at this time. “Since we know the vaccine will take some time, the treatment part takes priority,” he said.
At a press conference at the Planalto Palace, Teich said that today there are more than 400 studies on the disease in the world and about 30 in Brazil.
The minister asked the doctors involved to send information on the evolution of the treatments and to include patients in the studies.
“This allows us, in a much faster time, to understand the benefits. This is essential so that we can see the best way to recommend treatments, “he said.
Teich also reported that he is interacting with the command of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) so that the body can help him “design the best way to carry out tests.”
During the interview, he said again that “there will be no inopportune actions” to free the population from isolation. “Brazil is a heterogeneous country, we will have different measures in different regions of the country,” he said.
