An 82-year-old woman is among the victims of the action of the militiamen, who have invaded a property in a residential condominium in Praça Seca, West Zone of Rio. Last Thursday, she attended the 28 DP (Campinho) to present the documents of the apartment, which was rented and was his source of income.
According to the police, at least six apartments whose owners were not at home were sold in a period of three months and are already occupied by other families. The retiree’s apartment was one of them and it was taken when the tenant went to work.
– The old woman found out that we were investigating this crime and decided to look for us. She brought all the property documents. It was proven that she is the true owner of the department – said the delegate Antônio Ricardo Lima Nunes, head of the 28th DP.
On Tuesday, experts from the Carlos Éboli Institute of Criminalistics (ICCE) found that three residential departments were attacked and their locks were modified.
The 28th DP says that each apartment invaded by militiamen was advertised on a shopping website for R $ 18,000. A religious leader is being investigated for alleged involvement in the scheme. A locksmith working nearby is also suspected of helping the group by changing the locks. He was arrested for stealing power.
– We wonder what your participation in the scheme is. It is suspected that he was hired to open the doors of the invaded apartments. Yesterday, when we went to the site, we saw with Light experts an electric power jack. He was arrested for robbery – said Nunes.
Located on Rua Barão, the condominium has 17 blocks with 270 apartments and is opposite another called Comunidade Residencial Aeronáutica, which was also attacked by militiamen last year. At the time, the group attempted to collect monthly security fees from residents, O GLOBO reported. The extortion, however, did not continue.
Rotation to keep the house full
Fearful of losing his apartment, one resident says he rotates with the other people who live with him, to prevent the property from being left empty. He reports that neighbors have suspected the action even by construction officials.
– It is a feeling of insecurity, of enormous impotence. We know that it is something that has been part of our state and we know that we have our life, in which we work every day. When I leave home now I am in this insecurity, without knowing if I will return with my house invaded – he said.
The condominium is near the Morro São José Operário, dominated by militiamen.
