5-year-old girl raped and murdered in Hortolândia complained of pain in recent days, says her great-grandmother; stepfather confessed his crimes | Campinas and Region

“She used to go to the bathroom, it took a long time. ‘Maria, are you taking a bath, what’s going on?’ ‘Grandma, I’m a pain.’ ‘What was my daughter?’. ‘I’m going to pee and it hurts, ‘”says Ilza Viana Nascimento.

The body of Maria Clara Calixto Nascimento was found in a field in Jardim São Felipe. She had been missing since Thursday morning when, according to the family, she went out to play at a neighbor’s house. Her mother, a 25-year-old production assistant, came to lunch and asked her partner about the girl’s location. At that time, he claimed that he slept and did not see her go.

After that, the family started looking for the boy and registered a police report at the Hortolândia Police Station. According to the Ministry of Public Security (SSP-SP), the stepfather was located in Campinas (SP) this Friday morning and transferred to the police station, where he confessed to the crime.

The man, who has been with police for rape, came to testify Thursday and said he knew nothing about the whereabouts of María Clara. He then took refuge in the family’s home in Monte Mor (SP), before trying to escape to Campinas. Cássio Martins Camilo will remain in prison and will be sent to a penitentiary unit.

The girl was found near her residence, in the Vila Real neighborhood, by family and friends, who have been searching since Thursday. The girl’s mother removed the girl’s body with her bare hands and took it to the Jardim Nova Hortolândia Emergency Unit (UPA), but she arrived dead at the scene. Expertise was called to go to the ground.

“This individual was located, he was taken to our facilities and here he confessed to the practice of crime, where he would have raped the child and later murdered,” says police chief João Jorge Ferreira da Silva.

Residents of the area beat up the news crews and two cars were damaged after the body was found. The delegate also reports that, on Thursday, the police had already found signs of suspicion of the crime. “Yesterday, when my investigators came in, the residence had been washed in its entirety. But that does not prevent the experts from finding more evidence.”

Confusion at the police station door

Following the arrest of her stepfather, the atmosphere became tense around the police station. Relatives and friends of the victim’s family came to the scene to try to see the suspect. In addition to cursing and yelling, smoke bombs were thrown inside the property and tires were burned in the street.

“We have no land. A sweet, super good girl. She cannot be forgotten,” said the girl’s great aunt, Adriana Viana Nascimento.
