Internet users echo on social networks, scared, an alert issued by the meteorological company MetSul, this Sunday (27), which points to an “extraordinary wave” of heat in Brazil this week.
According to the company, the heat wave will lower historical temperature records and there is a risk of intensification of the fires that affect the forests and jungles of Brazil.
“There is a possibility that absolute maximum temperature records will be broken in some cities and that the marks will be among the highest recorded in decades in some regions. Due to its size and intensity, the heat episode will recall extreme events of high temperature and dry air that usually reach California and Australia ”, says the company.
According to the forecast, the situation will be due to “a giant hot air bubble, a heat dome or ‘heat dome’ in English, in which an area of high pressure at altitude generates sinking (downward) movements in the atmosphere with extreme heat and very dry weather ”.
“The severe drought with low availability of soil moisture ends up aggravating the situation and creating a feedback mechanism in which dry weather aggravates heat and heat aggravates dry weather, generating even greater evapotranspiration,” says the report.
The highest temperatures should be registered in the Midwest region, with maximum values above 40ºC, and the heat should be even more intense from Wednesday (30). The interior of the state of São Paulo, in turn, can reach peaks of 41ºC to 44ºC.
“The city of São Paulo will face the heat as it has rarely or perhaps never witnessed. MetSul’s predicted highs for the week, based on the Mirante de Santana station benchmark, are 32ºC to 33ºC on Monday, around 26ºC to 27ºC on Tuesday, 35ºC to 36ºC on Wednesday, 37ºC to 38ºC on Thursday, 38ºC to 39ºC on Friday and dropping to 24ºC or 25ºC on Saturday with rain and risk of storms. It is crucial to emphasize that São Paulo is the largest city in Latin America and a huge urban heat island, so in some neighborhoods the temperature must be even higher and does not rule out that the maximum may reach or exceed 40ºC, which it’s too unusual, ”says the company.
