A 4-year-old boy died yesterday after being trapped inside a car in Aliança, a city south of Tocantins. The boy’s younger brother, 2, was also in the car and was rescued alive, being hospitalized in serious condition. The names of the children and parents were not released.

According to the police report, a nurse called the military police to come to the Gurupi Regional Hospital when the children arrived to be rescued there. The two-year-old was revived, but the four-year-old couldn’t resist.

The Civil Police of Tocantins said the mother went to sleep after arriving from a walk with her children. The two children then went to play in a vehicle. The car doors would have been closed, preventing the boys from leaving.

The mother of the children, a 43-year-old woman, was fined in flagrant crime for homicide (when there is no intention to kill). She was released after posting bail.

According to data from the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), during the afternoon the temperature in Aliança do Tocantins reached 39ºC.
