This Monday (28), Belgium, Luxembourg and Latvia joined the list of European Union countries that have already begun to vaccinate their citizens against Covid-19. Now, 25 of the 27 countries of the bloc are already applying vaccines. The remaining two, Ireland and the Netherlands, should start on Tuesday (29) and January, respectively.
In Belgium, the first vaccine of the campaign was Jos Hermans, 96, who received the first dose of the vaccine in a nursing home in Puurs, 30 km north of Brussels.
In addition to Jos, two more centenarians were immunized on the first day of the campaign in the country: Josepha Delmotte, 102, in Mons, 80 km southwest of Brussels; and Lucie Danjou, 101, in the Belgian capital itself (see photos below).

In Luxembourg, the first vaccinated were Catarina Fernandes and Kevin Nazarro, both nurses, according to the Luxembourgish website “RTL Today”.
Belgium, Latvia and Luxembourg will use the vaccine developed by the pharmaceutical companies Pfizer and BioNTech, which is applied in two doses. All those vaccinated this Monday (28) will receive a booster in 3 weeks.
The immunizer uses mRNA technology (see video below). The vaccine was the first of its kind to enter the market.

The European Union started the vaccination campaign against Covid-19 on Sunday (27). However, not the 27 countries of the bloc have begun to apply vaccines at the same time.
Germany, Hungary and Slovakia started immunization the day before, on Saturday (26), and Ireland should start on Tuesday (29).
The Netherlands will have to wait until January 8. According to the American newspaper “The New York Times”, the first Dutch in the queue will be those aged 60 and over with pre-existing health problems. The next will be older citizens without previous illnesses: about 6.5 million people. Healthy people under the age of 60 will not be eligible for the vaccine until August.
Also in Europe, but outside the bloc, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Norway and Serbia have also begun to immunize the population. Iceland will start submitting applications on Tuesday (29).
Counting Europeans, at least 42 countries around the world have already started immunizing the population, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, Chile, Costa Rica, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Russia, China, Saudi Arabia and Israel. .
In South America, Argentina also plans to start vaccination on Tuesday (29). On the same date, Germany plans to start applying Sputnik V, the vaccine developed by Russia against Covid-19.
