In reaction to the verdict, the prosecutor (PP) Afroza Farhana Ahmed said they were satisfied with the verdict. The trial of the case has been completed in just 13 business days. Abdur Rashid, a lawyer for the plaintiffs at the Center for Law and Arbitration, told Prothom Alo that they were satisfied with the verdict. On the other hand, Majnoor’s lawyer, Rabiul Islam, said that an appeal would be filed in the high court against the verdict. Dhaka District Legal Aid attorney Rabiul Islam is fighting the case on behalf of Majnoor as there is no attorney for him.
Testimony in the case ended on November 5. On August 26, the court brought charges against Majnoor, the only defendant in the case. On March 17, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch (DB) filed a charge sheet against Majnoor in the Dhaka Metropolitan Chief Magistrate (CMM) court.
24 people were declared witnesses in the charge sheet of the case. The victim’s mobile phone and 20 other items were seized as evidence in the case. Reporting to the court, the police said that on January 5, the Dhaka University student walked from the Kurmitola bus stop in the capital to the place near the golf club. At that time the defendant Majnu picked her up and raped her. The girl’s father presented a case to the cantonment police station. Later, the RAB raided and arrested Majnu.
